Matthew Kingswood is the pastor of the Russell Reformed Presbyterian Church. Matt was raised in a Christian home, attending worship in a Dutch reformed congregation (both his parents came to Canada from the Netherlands after the Second World War… “Kingswood” used to be “Koningswoud”!). From his parents especially, Matt was exposed to a living, biblically-grounded faith in Christ, and by God’s grace knew Jesus as saviour from early days. Matt enjoys almost all outdoor pursuits, including camping and mountaineering, being an alumnus of the National Outdoor Leadership School in Lander, Wyoming.
After getting married to Tara in 1991, Matt studied Classics at Carleton University (B.A.) in Ottawa. He then received his theological training at Ottawa Theological Hall and Knox Theological Seminary in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (M. Div.). His pastoral internship was served at Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Matt and Tara worshipped with the Ottawa R.P.C. during their university and seminary days. In the autumn of 1997, a small bible study group in Russell was organized as a mission church of the RPCNA, and the congregation called Matt to serve as teaching elder. Initially, only evening worship services were held in Russell. Then, in the summer of 1998, both morning and evening worship commenced. Matt and Tara live in the village of Russell with their six kids—Elia, Abigail, Graeme, Emily, Kate, and Esther.
